Amazon Managed Blockchain preview maintenance extended to 8 PM PST on Monday, April 8th

Dear Amazon Managed Blockchain preview customer, Thanks for participating in the Amazon Managed Blockchain preview, and we hope you are enjoying our new service. A maintenance window for the preview was started on Thursday, April 5th where the preview was unavailable and all Amazon Managed Blockchain resources were terminated. As previously noted, this maintenance window was scheduled to be completed today, April 5th, at 5 PM PST. We are now extending this maintenance window to 8 PM PST on Monday, April 8th. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. We will send an email on Monday, April 8th with updates when the service is available. We will be adding several new features and improvements to our API, and you will need to use a new version of the Managed Blockchain preview AWS Command Line Interface (CLI). You will be able to download this CLI from a link in our Getting Started guide in our documentation. Our documentation and API reference will be updated in conjunction with these updates. Also, another reminder: The second maintenance period start date is 8:00 AM PST on Tuesday, April 16th. The preview will be unavailable during the maintenance period, which is estimated to end at 9:00 AM PST on Wednesday, April 17th. Also, please note that your Amazon Managed Blockchain resources will be deleted during this maintenance period. Quinney College of Law ^top MEDICAL-LEGAL STUDIES EJOURNAL Sponsored by Florida State University Center for Innovative Collaboration in Medicine & Law "Holding Physicians Accountable for Fertility Fraud"  forthcoming Columbia Journal of Gender and Law (Spring 2020) JODY LYNEE MADEIRA, Indiana University Maurer School of Law-Bloomington Email: jmadeira@law.harvard.edu Recently, several cases have been filed in North America and Europe alleging that fertility physicians inseminated former patients with their own sperm, only to have this conduct come to light decades later when their unsuspecting adult children use direct-to-consumer genetic tests only to learn that they are not biologically related to their fathers and often have multiple half-siblings. For instance, Donald Cline of Indianapolis, Indiana, has over 50 donor-conceived children, with more continuing to come forward. Although these cases induce gut-level disgust, it has thus far proven difficult to hold these physicians legally accountable because their conduct seems to fall within gaps in existing civil and criminal laws. This article explores the legal contours of fertility fraud cases involving illicit physician inseminations, explaining why it falls through gaps in existing criminal and civil law, and why it is essential to take whatever measures are necessary to hold physicians accountable. Part I discusses six physicians who have thus far faced criminal or civil charges for their conduct in North America and analyzes why it is difficult to hold physicians criminally and civilly liable under existing law, including excerpts from an interview with the prosecutor in the Cline case. Part II discusses how fertility fraud violates various ethical and legal interests of female and male former patients and their donor-conceived children. Finally, Part III assesses how Cline's illicit inseminations affected parents and progeny, how they learn of these new genetic connections, what they think of Cline and his motivations, how they derive support from one another, their reactions to criminal proceedings against Cline, and why they regard a legislative "fertility fraud" bill as an ideal outcome. This article concludes by discussing efforts to pass a fertility fraud bill in Indiana. While a patent-fueled research anticommons does not appear to have emerged in the ways that Heller and Eisenberg envisioned, there are new ways in which the fragmentation of rights -- whether through trade secrecy, narrow licensing or data propertization -- continues to threaten research and commercial development. Why Interpret at Immigration Court? Hi S.Ye Why, indeed? Everyone knows: immigration court work is challenging and intense, pay is sometimes well below market rates paid by other courts, and certain best practices for interpreter working conditions, such as pair interpreting, have not been implemented. I thought that once I got state certified, which I achieved in August of last year, I'd shift from immigration work to what I perceived at the time to be the more exciting and prestigious work in state trial courts.
